We are looking forward to continuing these fun type of communal contests thru the year, so if there are any artists, labels, promoters, businesses who would like to sponsor these events feel free to contact us.
It was a great turn out – thanks to all the photographers taking part in this fun event. The decisions were battled out in the studio of Blues411 where we rejected, inspected and finally selected the winners in some created categories since y’all were so much fun and took this contest to a new level.
If anyone would like to sponsor a contest please let me know, it’s a great way of getting your product out there, whether you are an artist, label, independant business, photographer, whatever, come on and join in the fun. It can only be a good thing. Contact me for details.
Some thoughts….OK, all Scot Sutherland photos were automatically disqualified, he is way too easy a target, we offically re-name this contest the Scot Sutherland Blues Shoes Contest in his honor. Thanks Scot for inspiring so many people to look down instead of at the band !
I would like to thank our sponsor for this event – Ms. Willow McGrain and Heritage Shortbread of Bluffton, South Carolina for stepping up and offering to provide the grand prize. Please check out her superb shortbreads at http://www.heritageshortbread.com/index.htm. Seriously these babies are friggin’ good, not like those run of the mill, scratchy things we be getting at the stores. I have toured her facility and they are all hand made and baked in temperature controlled ovens – pretty amazing. You can find these babies at finer retail outlets across the US and by internet thru her site. Trust me on this one kiddoes.
Click on photos below for full screen to do them justice !
THE WINNERS ARE:
Out of the Box Winner:
Eve Maulsby; ‘Barefootin’ on the Railing’
Just a great pic of two sets of bare feet chillin’ on the October 2010 Bluescruise, an unfortunate ship off to the left it’s passengers wishing they were on the LRBC. Just a great fun shot.
Mens Shoes Winner:
Bull Durham; ‘Bottoms Up, or Licks Just Keep Getting Harder to Find’
Many choices here, but this one wins out for it’s capturing of the true spirit of the Blues. It says it all about the grit and gristle it takes to make it in the Blues world. Plus it was a unique approach to the theme.
Ladies Shoes Winner:
Layla Zoe; ‘In Germany, 2009, Blue Shoes & Tats’
Ok all fetishes aside, this category was one that had some amazing shots. It was down to three different pics and this one won out cos of the multiple things going on in the photo. The shoe is above the ground representing action (and not a static image), the blue high hells are gottdam sexy, and the tatoos are super. Very Cool thanks.
Grand Prize Winner:
Suzanne Foschino; ‘Lil’ Ed & His Steel Toed Cons’
Holy Moly folks, everyone deserves a prize but I can’t be doing that - I can only award one Grand Prize. This is the one,it ssays it all – Lil’ Ed, getting some air as he launches his slide down the neck of the guitar, fez gently atop his expressive face, the toe – check it out – it’s poised to become air-lifted – it’s taken at the precise moment where you see what’s going on and can image what was next – Suzanne great shot and congrats.
Until Next Time
