So for our anniversary we trekked up to Toronto to see a tribute to Little Walter presented by Raoul Bhaneja at Hugh’s Room.
A great venue for live music, Hugh’s Room is set up to make everyone comfortable and welcomed.
Raoul & The Big Time Band opened the set with some Little Walter covers that captured the feel and tonal quality that Walter was known for. His band consisted of Terry Wilkins (bass), Tyler Yarema (piano), Jake Chisolm (gtr/mandolin), Darren Gallen (gtr), Tom Bona (drm).
Special guests were Jon Knight from the band ‘Soulstack’ (which Tom also plays in) and Toronto harp guru Dr. Nick.
Very special guests were Steve Marriner (Monkey Junk) and Mr. Billy Boy Arnold.
A great night of music as we were treated to four different harp players (who knew they could co-exist LOL), each providing their personal take on Little Walter’s style and feel. From acoustic guitars with Mandolin and Billy Boy Arnold singing those low down blues, to Steve Marriner showcasing his superb knowledge of harp-land – everyone got their fill and left satisfied.
Thanks to all musicians, staff, brewers of the fine beer from Montreal for making this a great evening.
