Well the results are in and we gots ourselves some winners. Well to be honest I can say that everyone of our entrants got a prize. But we had to choose four winners – a Grand Prize Winner, and three others who where just a touch above the competition and award them some great prizes from DeCapo Press, Blues411 and Blind Raccoon.
All of these had something to offer, personal in nature – which was great. Some called upon personal demons, while others seemed to be in attack mode. Even one made references to those who went before us and gave a sense of history to the whole thing.
I want to thank each and every once of you who entered, you know who you are. I was humbled by the response and quality thereof, it has given me a new appreciation of the fans of this music and of those who take the time to read Blues411.
Hope these lyrics make you think, smile, shake your head or make you feel it – cos as many an artist have said to me ”if it don’t make ya feel, then it ain’t the blues”

Shelley Lynne Hardinge Autographed copy of Buddy’s Book ‘When I Left Home: My Story’
You better believe I’ve got the Blues
Damn right I paid my dues
You better believe I’ve got the Blues
Damn right I paid my dues
My heart has more holes than a whiskey barrel of screws
I stopped by my father’s house
I just needed to see his face
I stopped by my father’s house
I just needed to see his face
He said he never wanted, held or loved me, And I should leave without a trace!
You better believe I’ve got the Blues
Damn right I paid my dues
You better believe I’ve got the Blues
Damn right I paid my dues
There’s no way you can hurt me more than my very own Blues

Third Prize:
Brian Cornish CD’s, Vinyl, DVD and other droppings from Blues411 World Headquarters and Blind Raccoon
A Howlin’ Wolf album cover drew me in,
and I heard Sumlin and Burnett.
Yeah, that Howlin’ Wolf album cover drew me in,
and when I heard Sumlin and Burnett,
Right there on that Killin’ Floor, I found out just how blue you could get.
Then Stevie Ray rolled into town,
and said, “Let me show something, sonny.”
My eyes lit up when Stevie said,
“Let me show you something, sonny.”
And he tore up that Stratocaster, like the damned thing owed him money.
Something magic happened,
like a spark that found a fuse.
No, I’ll never forget that feeling,
when a spark did find a fuse.
And still, three decades later, every day I get the blues.
Until next time,
Love, Peace & Chicken Grease
