Baker’s Dozen of Blues: September 15, 2014

BakersDozenHola, hello, lots of new music here on our chart this week. We dug a little bit deeper into our featured artists repertoire and came up with some tasty tunes that should thrill ya a fill ya full of blues. Our top three artists all have new songs for your listening pleasure, then skip one and Carolyn Fe’ gives us a new Kitty Cat to pet…..

We also have three new additions to our Baker’s Dozen – two well known artists who have put out super releases. Marcia Ball & Robben Ford have debuted this week (Marcia’s track features Terrance Simien) and in the middle of these two is a very nice find Larry Griffith. Hope ya enjoy them and that they move up the charts.

Ahh but our #1 this week, is one of the most talented piano players around. Winner of The inaugural Pinetop Perkins Award, and fan favorite on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise – and a fav of mine – Ms. Eden Brent, congrats Lil’ Boogaloo!

Our Amuse Bouche is doubling down on September birthdays. There were so many great artists born this month that we decided to break them out into R&B and then Blues birthdays. Last week was R&B this week is the Blues. Have a listen at all these talented artists – some are still with us so if possible get to their shows and support them.

This week we actually find ourselves at home, fancy that! We are enjoying our time home and getting ready for our trip to the Jackson R&B Festival August 15, 16 in Jackson, Mississippi. Hope to see ya there cause there is a fantastic line up of Blues and R&B artists. Check the line-up out by clicking name link above.

We are proud to announce that we have added the Daytona Blues Festival to our Festival Media Partner Roster, it’s October 10-12, so get yourself down to Florida and hang with the crowds and listen to some excellent blues.

Holding on to #1 this week is none other than,  Janiva Magness, and her release ‘original’ . This release is on her Fathead record label  and is doing exceedingly well in the blues/roots and world charts.
With that happening it has caused a bit of a log jam – with Ronnie Earl, Ron Tanski, Jarekus Singleton and Bob Corritore pushing hard to move up, as they are all in the top five, we shall see what happens.

Be sure to check out the up and comers on the Chef Suggestions list right below the Baker’s Dozen. These are the artists who are positioning themselves for a spot on the play list and are well worth you time and effort to know.

If you are an artist you might want to get in on this, well artists and related blues peeps. We are gathering recipes for a HART FUND cookbook, all proceeds go to the HART Fund and we are looking at an August 31st end date for submissions. To learn more please email me at BLUESFOOD@BLUES411.COM – very easy to enter recipes our PDF will have all ya need to get there and get it done. It will be a hard cover book with various sections for recipes, and could be used by fans attending your shows and have you autograph yer own recipe – now how cool is that?

Our Amuse Bouche features AUGUST birthdays, we hand picked a group of interesting artists and some very cool tunes for y’all, so enjoy and be sure to wish them that are still with us a happy birthday!

A Baker’s Dozen of Blues: July 28, 2014

We are on the road home from another fabulous Pennsylvania Blues Festival. Each of the artists gave us their very best, and the groove was heavy with the blues and love for the extended framily. Great to see friends, and make new ones.

A special shout out to Michael Cloeren and crew for putting it all together for us once again. If you haven’t been to this festival you are surely missing a great one. Put It on the bucket list.

Blues411_200x200We are giving y’all a listen to the artists who provided so much fun and music to us in our Amuse Bouche portion of the show (which occurs in the second hour).

Our new #1 this week is a personal favorite of mine, and many others – Janiva Magness, and her release ‘original’. This release is on her record label Fathead and has done exceedingly well in the blues/roots world and charts. We are proud to be able to bring you, yet, another track from her release this one is called ‘Who Am I’ this is the third track from the release we have featured.

New to the list this week is Carmen Grillo. This young artist worked with legendary funk R&B band Tower of Power for many years. This release shows those influences and more, and I hope you dig the grooves he is putting down.

A Baker’s Dozen of Blues: July 21, 2014

IMG_6034_9458_edited-1It was a sad week once we learned of the death of a true superstar in the blues field, Johnny Winter. There is much to say and not enough time to say it – so suffice it to say that we send condolences to his brother Edgar, his manager and friend Paul Nelson, his family, and all of his fans from over the many years he has graced us with his unique and heartfelt blues playing.

With that in mind we made a decision to pay tribute to Johnny and the music he loved so dearly by saluting him in his various forms of blues. As a solo performer, as part of him and Edgar, his work with blues legends such as Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Willie Dixon and others. Our Amuse Bouche will feature some not so common tracks from his long and hallowed history in the blues, we hope you will enjoy these specially selected tracks and remember him fondly with a smile on your face looking up to heaven. Bless ya brother, play on.

A Baker's Dozen Of Blues

A Baker’s Dozen Of Blues

Our new #1 this week is Back Pack Jones, a pretty amazing feat considering we had never heard of them but their music won us over and we hope it has made an impression on you. Another milestone for Jarekus Singleton - he has returned to the Baker’s Dozen chart. Just three weeks after reaching the #1 spot (and holding to it for 2 weeks) he has reappeared on our chart. Never before has this happened. Thanks to all the fans and supporters who contacted us and had his back. He is at #5 this week.

We have two new main course entrees this week – Rip Lee Pryor, son of legendary bluesman Snooky Pryor, and a new band out of NY State Pork Chop Willie, who feature the music of Mississippi Hill Country filtered through the grit and hard edged realities of NYC. We will see Rip this coming weekend, along with Jarekus (and many other fine artists) at the Pennsylvania Blues Fest, hope to see many of you there too. Be sure to come by and say hi!
