Government says no data breaches found; Ask Infosys to repair; Know more

Income Tax Portal Glitch: The income tax portal, which was in the news a few months ago for developing glitches, has again developed snags, the government confirmed on Tuesday. The Department of Income Tax, which took note of the problem after receiving several complaints from users, asked the portal’s developer, Infosys, to look into the matter. By the way, the glitch of the income tax portal happened on the first anniversary of its unveiling. The IT department also clarified in a tweet that the issue is under investigation.

The new income tax portal, which aimed to provide users with a seamless experience when filing taxes and claiming refunds, had experienced major issues on its launch day on June 7, 2021 which continued for several weeks. Issues resurfacing on its first birthday in June 2022 have some wondering if it was hacked on the birthday. Many users complained that the search button was not working for them, while others mentioned that the details about them displayed on the portal were not correct.

“An issue with the search functionality of the e-filing website has been brought to our attention. The Income Tax Department is on the case. @Infosys has been instructed to look into the matter and @Infosys has confirmed that ‘they were solving the problem first,’ tweeted the Income Tax Portal while tagging the company’s CEO, Salil Parekh.

Finance Ministry officials also assured that there was no data breach and that the portal was not hacked as some users assumed. “We are aware that there have been reports of issues with the income tax portal and someone has attempted to enter the portal. We immediately asked #Infosys to review the concerns. It constantly checks the problem. Infosys’ preliminary report indicates that there was no data breach,” Sangeeta Singh, chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, told CNBC TV18 on Tuesday.

According to a report by the Economic Times, which quotes a person familiar with the matter, the problem with the search option on the income tax portal operated by Infosys has been resolved. However, there has been no official statement from the company.

By the way, Tuesday marked the first anniversary of the launch of the new income tax portal. Over the past year, the functioning of the portal has been flawed on several occasions, prompting the government to extend the deadline for filing tax returns and related forms for all taxpayers.

On June 7, 2021, when the new income tax portal, www., was launched for the first time, several users complained about problems and difficulties in its operation. This prompted the finance ministry to summon Infosys CEO Salil Parekh and extend the deadline for filing tax returns.
