How to Check Income Tax Refund Status

The tax refund will not be paid to you until after the tax department treat your SHOOT and confirm the same by warning notice. Here’s how to check the tax refund status

If you paid more tax than your actual tax payable for a fiscal year, you are eligible for an income tax refund after you file the income tax return (ITR) for that fiscal year. However, you will only receive this tax refund after the tax department has processed your ITR and confirmed it via a formal notice.

This notice is being sent to you under Section 143 (1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. This year returns must be filed for fiscal year 2020 to 21 for which the last extended date is currently December 31, 2021.

Income tax refund is processed by the State Bank of India (SBI) and is directly credited to the bank account designated by the taxpayer in his ITR at the time of its deposit. Thus, it is important to make sure that you have mentioned the correct bank account number and the correct IFS code.

In addition, the bank account must be pre-validated on the new government electronic income tax reporting portal and the PAN must be linked to the bank account.
